WHAT IS PILATES?

The Pilates method was developed early this century by German born Joseph Pilates.

It has since been developed by physiotherapists to teach patients with low back pain how to strengthen the deep abdominal & back extensor muscles.  Strong muscles stabilize the spine in a good posture during function.

Pilates exercises are taught by the physiotherapist in individual treatment sessions, and a home floor programme is commenced, leading to an advanced programme once good trunk control is achieved.
